Body Memes

Published January 30, 2012 by Ashley Pariseau

I’m noticing a trend lately on facebook, blogs, tumblrs, etc of “This body is better than that body” and “When did this become hotter than this?” What it has become, is annoying.

I see…

Disclaimer: I know story memes are like, so 2011, but this was my first attempt at it, so…

Dubstep & Female Vocals

Published January 8, 2012 by Ashley Pariseau

I have become quite drawn to dubstep music within the past year. I love the different sound and slower paced beats. I have noticed that I tend to most like the tracks with women vocals in them. I’m not trying to downplay the ones with male vocals or no vocals at all. I just think there is something so beautiful and hypnotizing about dubstep + female voice that takes me away to a new place and time.

Ok so here is a list of some of my most favorite ones, and most of these happen to be remixes of already popular songs (many are even better than the original in my opinion).

If you have any suggestions of dubstep tracks, post them!

2011 Meme

Published January 1, 2012 by Ashley Pariseau

I needed an appropriate themed post for the New Year, so I decided to steal this survey from Clarissa’s Blog.

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
Fired a handgun for the first time
Appeared in a calendar
Signed an autograph

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I’ve never been big on resolutions. I didn’t make any last year and I probably won’t this year. I guess I make resolutions on a regular basis, so to make one for New Years just seems silly.

3. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve?
Not quite sure yet. No big plans at the moment.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Luckily no.

5. What countries did you visit?
I did not venture out of the US this year.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
More spending money and better opportunity to travel.

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
No date in particular

8. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
Winning Miss Indiana International

9. What was your biggest failure?
Haven’t yet landed a better job.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just a cold or two

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Clothes

12. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, bills, and food

13. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Sierra Leone

14. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Poetry writing

15. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Waste time by being distracted

16. What was your favorite TV program?
America’s Next Top Model, although after the horrible All Star cycle, that might be dwindling.

17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t really hate anyone. I have stronger dislike for certain people and qualities in humankind though.

18. What was the best book you read?
Sadly, I haven’t read any books this year. Well I guess that is one thing to do for 2012. Any suggestions?

19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Dubstep

20. What was your favorite film of this year?
Not sure.

21. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 27 and I visited my mom down near Bloomington.

22. What kept you sane?
My boyfriend and my best friend.

23. Who did you miss?
My family

24. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned.
Everyone gets older, but not everyone grows up.

25. What does 2012 hold for me?
Preparing for Miss International and promoting my platform.
Hopefully getting a new job, lots of fun, and new opportunities.

Pintrest!

Published November 29, 2011 by Ashley Pariseau

I’ve been hearing people raving about this pintrest stuff, and decided to check it out. If you don’t know what it is, it’s fairly simple. You sign up and start “pinning” images and videos of interest and share them with others. You can “like”, comment, and follow other members too. I found myself browsing on there for quite some time last night so I figured I would start one.

If you have one, post a link and I’ll check it out.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2011

Published November 19, 2011 by Ashley Pariseau

Almost here!

I just can’t help it, I love VS and their fashion show.

Can’t wait for this! I love the VS brand, although not everyone does. I can respect their pov but I just have a different opinion obviously. This is one of those times where I have to just propose to agree to to disagree.

Will you be watching the VS fashion show?

Reader Question: How To Handle Posts

Published October 18, 2011 by Ashley Pariseau

The other day I received a new comment in my entry called Blog Suppression, a post where I expressed my struggle with how much I should censor my opinions on here and if I should worry about offending people. Their question:

I would like to hear how you have decided to handle your posts. I am considering starting a blog and I think I have a lot of entertaining topic/obervations/things to touch upon, but I also don’t want to cast a dark light on anyone I know or care about. I don’t even want to cast a dark light on people I don’t know or don’t care about. My observations would never be mean spirited, but more comic. I realize when someone else is the center of humorous observation they have a hard time wrapping around the poster’s humor. Not sure what to do myself.

That is a very good question to ask. Here are some thoughts. If you truly feel that your observations wouldn’t intend on being mean spirited then I say you don’t have anything to worry about, really. Don’t censor your yourself. Yesterday while I was typing my Express Yourself post, I was looking at the wiki page and I came across another quote by Madonna that I find fit for not only her song but this kind of situation as well.

The time I learn how not to edit myself will be the time I consider myself a complete adult. – Madonna

To put it simply, post about whatever you want. If your intentions aren’t to be mean, that should show through. If you are worried about coming off like a jerk, you might want to reread or have a friend read your posts to see how it comes across to an audience member. But also know that you can’t always please everyone. There will likely usually be someone who will find fault in something you write, and that just comes with the territory of being a writer/blogger. Maybe you could make a disclaimer or note somewhere in the About section that your blog is meant to be humorous, so people won’t take everything you say so seriously. With most humor blogs I see, there is usually a description somewhere stating that it is humorous. Take The Bloggess, for example. She makes it pretty obvious that her blog is meant to be funny and most people are on board with that. People can either take it or leave it and if someone hates what you say anyway, they don’t have to visit. It may take some time for you to develop the right kind of message you want to get across and that is ok. You’ll get it. Tell your friends and family about your blog and explain to them what kind of blog it is. They might not agree with every little thing you say in it, but that’s just natural. It’s ok to be a little candid sometimes. Everyone is that way from time to time. You might also be surprised at how many people will support you with it and become a fan of your writing. I hope this helps, good luck!

10 Facts About Me

Published October 13, 2011 by Ashley Pariseau

I got this post idea from Helga, and I asked her if I could steal it. I will try to make these not so obvious or boring.

1. I was born with a clubbed foot. When my mom was pregnant with me, she fell and my foot became twisted and stuck behind her rib and it grew there. When I was born, my foot was twisted backwards and I had to have corrective surgery asap. I wore braces and casts for the first 2 years of my life. Now it’s fine and it doesn’t affect how I do anything, but my left foot is a size 5 and my right foot is a size 6.

2. Me and my boyfriend have 5 snakes. Two pastel ball pythons, one spider ball python, one normal ball python, and one grey banded king. One of the pastels is the snake in my calendar photo. We keep all of them inside plastic tubs on a rack in our bedroom.

3. I am distantly related to Edgar Allan Poe and James Whitcomb Riley. My mom is a great writer and so was my grandma. I believe I inherited the writing gene.

4. I have a birthmark on the back of my neck that is just a dark brown area that looks like dirt. It’s kinda big but not many people ever see it since my hair covers it most of the time.

5. My last name is French Canadian.

6. I used to be in gymnastics when I was 9 and 10. I wish I would have continued with it.

7. I can’t go a day without drinking Pepsi or having something chocolate. Well I can, but I don’t want to.

8. Celebrity gossip is a guilty pleasure. So it watching America’s Next Top Model and Dr. Phil.

9. I want to have a tiger as a pet one day, like Princess Jasmine.

10. I have become quite addicted to dubstep in the past year.
